SHADE TREES

“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” Warren Buffett
What if we knew the impact our actions would have many years after we make them? There is something beautifully humbling about this thought, isn’t there? There is power in looking at the fact that every decision we make impacts others in some way. To realize that what we do today—every word we speak, every action we take, every kindness we offer—has a ripple that extends far beyond what we can see in this moment. We are not just living for today. We are planting seeds for tomorrows we may never witness.
I found myself reflecting on this when I remembered a simple moment—one that didn’t feel monumental at the time. During the early days of the pandemic shutdown, Spirit nudged me to open a livestream and simply ask, “How is everyone doing?” There was no grand plan. No expectation. Just a gentle prompting to connect. And from that one small act, a community was born. A living, breathing circle of souls who continue to gather, support one another, and remind each other that we are never alone. What began as a whisper became a forest of connection and continues daily as our Morning Cuppa Joy.
How often do you underestimate the power of your presence? Even when you believe you are doing something “just for you,” you are lighting a path for someone else. Someone is watching. Someone is listening. Someone is quietly drawing strength from your courage, your consistency, your willingness to show up.
Today, someone said to me, “I’m just not motivated.” And isn’t that something we all feel at times? We cannot force another soul to move forward. We cannot make their choices for them. But we can become a reflection—a living example of what it looks like to take one step, and then another. We can be the shade for someone who is still standing in the heat of their uncertainty. Not by pushing… but by being.
Dear Angels, sometimes it feels like what I do doesn’t matter, or that the impact is too small to make a difference. How can I trust that my actions are meaningful, even when I cannot see the results?
Dear Ones, you measure impact by immediate evidence, while we see the tapestry across time. No act of love is ever wasted. No moment of kindness dissolves into nothingness. Each intention you set, each step you take in alignment with love, is a seed planted in the soil of collective consciousness. You may not witness its growth, but that does not mean it has not taken root.
Understand that you are both the planter and the shade-giver. There were those before you who planted seeds that now support your journey. And there will be those after you who will rest in the shelter of what you create today. Do not wait for validation to continue. Do not require proof to believe in your purpose. The energy you embody speaks louder than any words you could offer. If you wish to inspire, then live inspired. If you wish to bring peace, then be peace. If you wish to awaken motivation in others, then gently walk your path and allow them to witness your light. In this way, you become the tree.
Angels Whisper: Plant your seeds with love and walk on in faith… for somewhere, someday, someone will rest beneath the shade of your light.
Today, I promise to keep planting seeds.
