A REBEL FOR PEACE

“Life is short, Break the Rules. Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably And never regret ANYTHING That makes you smile.” Mark Twain
I guess I have always been a bit of a rebel. I’m not sure exactly when that rebellious streak began, but one thing I know for certain is that being told I can't do something has never sat well with me. And being told I must do something a certain way? Well, that is usually when my adventurous spirit starts looking for another way! I have always believed that life is meant to be lived, not simply endured. We weren't placed on this beautiful planet to quietly sit on the sidelines, following everyone else's rules about who we should be, what we should do, or how far we should dare to dream. Of course, there are rules that serve a purpose, especially those that keep us and others safe. But then there are those invisible rules we create for ourselves. The ones that whisper, "You're too old," "That's impossible," "What will people think?" or my personal favorite, "You can't do that!"
Speaking of rules, I am actually amazed that in all my years of driving, I have received only one speeding ticket and one warning. One of the things I absolutely love about traveling out west is the higher speed limits. There is something wonderfully freeing about those wide-open highways, where the horizon seems endless and the Angelmobile can stretch her wings a little. Now that I am back in the eastern part of the country, those lower speed limits can feel a bit restrictive. I think the Angelmobile has developed a personality of her own after six years on the Peace On Earth Tour. She seems to believe that if the road stretches out before her, she should be allowed to enjoy it!
Today, as I made my six-hour journey to my next destination in North Carolina, I had not one but TWO moments that made my heart skip a beat. Both times, I was certain I was about to see flashing lights behind me. You know that feeling when your stomach drops and you start mentally rehearsing what you will say to the officer? Well, imagine my surprise when both times it was someone else who got pulled over! I couldn't help but feel as though there was an invisible force field around the Angelmobile. Perhaps my angels were gently reminding me to pay attention and ease up on that accelerator! I have often wondered how officers decide which vehicle to stop when several are traveling together at the same speed. It remains one of life's little mysteries to me. And yes, dear friends, I do believe in divine protection. But I also know that our angels expect us to use the commonsense God gave us. After all, even an Angelmobile needs to respect the speed limit!
As I continued my journey, I found myself thinking about the words attributed to Mark Twain. I believe he and I would have gotten along quite well. There is something about the spirit of those words that speaks directly to my soul. Life is short.
I know that truth perhaps more intimately than many. There was a time in my life when I didn't know how many more days I would be given. Yet here I am, more than five decades after receiving the gift of a kidney transplant, still traveling, still laughing, still loving, and still discovering what an extraordinary adventure life can be.
Every mile of this Peace On Earth Tour has reinforced one powerful truth: We are not promised tomorrow, but we are gifted today. So why spend today holding grudges? Why waste precious moments worrying about what others think? Why keep our hearts locked away when there is so much love waiting to be shared?
Forgive quickly, because resentment is heavy baggage to carry on life's journey.
Love truly, because love is the one thing we can give away endlessly without ever running out.
Laugh uncontrollably, because sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is throw our heads back and laugh until tears roll down our cheeks.
And never regret the moments that bring genuine joy to your soul.
I have laughed with strangers who became friends. I have cried tears of gratitude while standing on sacred land. I have watched rainbows appear when I needed reassurance and witnessed miracles that no amount of planning could have orchestrated. I have taken roads that made absolutely no sense to anyone else, only to discover that they led me exactly where I needed to be. If I had listened to every voice that told me something was impossible, I would never have begun this peace mission. I would never have experienced the beauty of all fifty states, the incredible people who opened their hearts and homes to me, or the sacred moments that have forever changed my life. And I certainly wouldn't have discovered just how much joy can fit inside one little Angelmobile!
Perhaps the greatest rebellion of all is choosing to live with an open heart in a world that sometimes encourages us to close it. Choosing compassion when others choose judgment. Choosing forgiveness when resentment seems easier. Choosing peace when chaos is all around us.
That is the kind of rebel I want to be.
A rebel for love.
A rebel for kindness.
A rebel for peace.
And maybe, just maybe, a rebel who remembers to keep an eye on the speedometer!
Life is too precious to spend it waiting for permission to be happy. So dance when the music moves you. Hug a little longer. Say "I love you" without hesitation. Take that adventure you've been dreaming about. Let go of the grudges that have stolen enough of your precious time. And above all, don't forget to smile. Because the greatest adventure isn't how fast we travel or how many miles we cover. It is how fully we allow ourselves to experience the journey.
Dear Angels, how do we find the courage to live life fully without allowing fear, limitations, or the expectations of others to hold us back? How do we know when to follow the rules and when to follow the calling of our hearts?
Dear Ones, life was never intended to be a prison of limitations. You came into this earthly experience to discover, to explore, to love, and to remember the magnificent light that resides within you. There is a difference between rebellion born of resistance and freedom born of love. When you rebel simply to prove that no one can tell you what to do, you are still allowing another's words to direct your actions. True freedom comes when you no longer need to prove anything. Follow the guidance of your heart, but remember that divine freedom walks hand in hand with wisdom and responsibility.
You need not break the laws of the land to break the chains of fear. You need not race through life to experience its fullness. Sometimes the greatest joy is found when you slow down enough to notice the beauty surrounding you. Forgive because your heart deserves peace. Love because love is your divine nature. Laugh because joy is one of heaven's sweetest gifts. And when the road ahead seems uncertain, remember that you are never traveling alone. We are beside you in every moment, gently whispering, guiding, and celebrating each courageous step you take.
Do not measure your life by the number of years you have lived, but by the love you have shared and the light you have brought into the world. Be bold in your kindness. Be fearless in your compassion. Be extravagant with your love. And above all, beloved ones, be fully alive.
Angels Whisper: Do not wait until the end of your journey to discover that joy was riding beside you all along. The road of life is not a race to be won but a sacred adventure to be cherished. Travel with love, pause for laughter, forgive the bumps along the way, and trust that every mile holds a blessing. Your greatest freedom is not found in breaking the rules of the world, but in breaking free from the fears that have kept your beautiful soul from soaring. Live boldly, love deeply, and let peace be your traveling companion.
With love, light, and a little rebellious laughter,
Today, I promise to be a peaceful rebel.
