I See Your Innocence

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” – Dr. Seuss

Sometimes in life we find ourselves searching for something that is right in front of us and we are totally missing it. I loved my furbabies that shared my life. Each one was special in its own way. Years ago, I somehow inherited a Rottweiler named Rock. He was a gentle giant of a dog who never realized his size. I was intimidated by him and resisted having him in my home. He didn’t care about that. He was just happy to have his needs met – food and warm shelter. He thought he was a lap dog and would jump up on the couch to be next to me, head in lap. He eventually won my heart with his soulful eyes and heart of gold. He turned out to be one of the most beautiful gifts in my life. He gave me the gift of laughter at a time when I didn’t have a whole lot of that. One of the funniest experiences with him was when we had finally come to an understanding of our roles and his was to protect me. I had gone to bed after a particularly hard emotional day. He had been clingy and knew I needed attention and love. I said goodnight to him and laid down on my waterbed which was one of the older versions that had lots of wave movement. I saw the look in his eyes as I laid down and watched as he took a big leap with his 150-pound body landing on all fours on the shifting bed. He froze in fright as the bed moved side to side under his weight. His expression was priceless and I could see him wondering what the heck was happening and not quite sure what to do next. I burst out laughing at the situation which perplexed him even more and he just stood there unable to move, which made me laugh even harder. It was hilarious to watch this massive animal who could bring panic and fear to some just with his size and powerful presence being so thrown off his game. It made me see him in a new light, like a scared little puppy who just needed a tender touch and a hug. This being who had the power to crush and destroy in any given moment was standing before me quivering and in need of my help and kindness. This came to my mind tonight as I thought about the bullies of the world. I have been bullied in my life and it certainly does not feel good. I always saw them as strong with the power to crush and destroy whatever and whomever happened to be in front of them. Tonight I was able to look at bullies in a different light. I saw them as Rock, standing on what he thought was going to be solid surface but nothing about it was what it seemed to be and unsure what to do about it. I looked at the current bullies in our world, those filled with such seeming indifference for life, coldness and callousness. I was able to look beyond their appearance and their actions and recognize somewhere deep inside the insecure quivering being that felt the earth moving and shifting underneath them. While I did not quite reach the point of embracing any of these individuals, I at least could move beyond the repulsiveness of their behaviors and appeal to their higher consciousness to ask them to be open to their higher guidance.

Dear Angels, it is so easy to judge someone by what the outer appearance is. Rarely do we get to go beyond that judgment and show empathy. How do we separate what someone is doing from their true authentic self so that we can see their innocent being?

Dear Ones, mirror work in this circumstance is what is called for. It is easy to point fingers at the one who seems determined to harm and destroy, isn’t it? There is a certain justification that pops up which says “you hurt me and others, I want to hurt you.” The erroneous concept of an eye for an eye will not make you feel better, Dear Ones. As your heart hardens and perhaps you feel vindicated by spewing anger, it is short-lived as that very anger starts eating away at you. You are not harming anyone but yourself with that kind of energy. You are only adding to the hurt of the situation and in essence punching yourself as you strike out at the perceived enemy. May we encourage you to see the perpetrator in a different light? See him/her as the precious dog Rock, standing with all four legs sprawled and feeling the earth moving and shifting, frozen in powerlessness. See the fear and uncertainty. See them stripped down to their pure state where they are on equal footing with everyone else. Now from that pure place inside of you, reach out to their heart and send unconditional love. In so doing, you are losing the resistance to them, you are losing the fear of them and you are standing in your Divine authenticity. It is the only way to change your world.

Dear Angels, this is no small task you are sharing with us. I will go within and draw on my inner strength and make a commitment to be open to do as you are asking. I love you. Namaste y’all.
