Every Day Is Cause To Celebrate

“How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?” — Satchel Paige

It’s officially my birthday … seven decades on this beautiful planet. I was 19 when I had my first birthday party. I had been married for eight months to someone I barely knew. He did, however, know that I had expressed disgust at the idea of carrot cake. This had come up earlier in the year when I made the comment that carrots do not belong in a cake and refused to even taste it, even though it was one of his favorite cakes. He threw me a party and in front of a room full of friends brought out my birthday cake. Yep, you got it. It was a carrot cake. It was one of the biggest fights we had. I didn’t even understand all the dynamics of that interaction. I just knew that it didn’t feel good to have someone try to force something on me against my will. It was so unfortunate that my very first birthday party turned out to be so horrible. I didn’t even want to celebrate my birthdays going forward. It was just another day, just as it was in my childhood. That all changed after I had my kidney transplant because I realized that every day alive was something to be celebrated.

Dear Angels, I used to think of birthdays as just marking time on a calendar and adding a year to our age. I eventually found a different perspective about it. When I got a second chance at life, every day became precious, another day to celebrate truly living and not just existing. That is the present I receive every morning when I open my eyes. The date on the calendar is simply a reminder that I have had another year of miraculous experiences with people who are so near and dear to my heart.

Dear Ones, find the meaning in your actions and decisions because when you align your life with your values and purpose, every day becomes a meaningful step on your journey. While celebrating everyday moments is important, don't forget to commemorate significant milestones and achievements. These moments mark your journey and accomplishments. Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you and don’t wait for special moments or days to do so. Laugh often and loudly. Sing your inner song of happiness. Dance even when there is no music playing. Love yourself and every moment of your life.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste y’all.

Today, I promise to continue to celebrate every moment of every day of my life.
