THE GOD OF LOVE

“You're only here for a short visit. Don't hurry, don't worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.” Walter Hagen
Growing up, I believed God was watching every move I made, waiting for me to mess up. The image I carried of Him was not one of love and comfort, but of judgment and punishment. Sunday after Sunday I sat listening to warnings about sin, mistakes, and consequences. It felt as though perfection was required and any misstep would bring disappointment from Heaven. The truth is, living under that kind of fear is exhausting. Fear wraps itself around the heart and suffocates joy. It makes us second-guess our worth and question whether we could ever truly be loved. I spent years trying to “get it right,” terrified that somehow I would fail God beyond repair. But perfection is an impossible standard for human beings. We are here to learn, to grow, to stumble, and to rise again wiser than before.
The Morgan Wallen lyric struck something deep inside me:
“I'd shame me, I'd blame me
I'd make me pay for my mistakes
But I don't think Jesus does it that way.”
How many of us punish ourselves more harshly than God ever would? How many times do we replay our mistakes, relive our failures, and condemn ourselves long after the lesson has already been learned? As I grew older, I began asking questions. I started talking to the angels, pouring out my fears, my confusion, and my longing to understand who God truly was. I did not know then that I was beginning a journey of introspection and awakening. I only knew there had to be more than fear. And slowly, lovingly, my understanding changed. I began to see God not as an angry judge waiting for a “gotcha” moment, but as a loving Creator who desires healing, growth, and peace for His children. I realized fear is often used by humanity as a means of control. Fear keeps people small. Fear keeps people obedient. But love? Love expands the soul. Love invites us into relationship rather than submission through terror. Jesus demonstrated compassion again and again. He sat with the broken. He defended the condemned. He healed the wounded. He did not stand over humanity with a whip of shame. He reached out His hand in love.
Dear Angels, why do so many people struggle to believe they are worthy of God’s love?
Dear Ones, because humanity has confused fear with holiness for far too long. Love was never meant to imprison the soul. Divine love awakens it. Your Creator does not seek perfection from you. Your Creator seeks connection with you. Every mistake carries within it the opportunity for wisdom, compassion, and transformation. You are not loved because you are flawless. You are loved because you are. Release the burden of condemning yourself. The moment you fall is often the very moment grace rushes in to lift you again. Heaven does not celebrate your suffering. Heaven celebrates your awakening to love.
So today, perhaps the greatest healing we can experience is releasing the image of a punishing God and embracing the truth of Divine compassion. Maybe Jesus truly does not do it that way. Maybe grace has been there all along, patiently waiting for us to believe we are worthy of receiving it.
Angels Whisper: Fear may control behavior for a moment, but only love transforms the soul forever.
Today, I promise to remember how much God loves me and that I am worthy of that love.
