It IS Personal

"A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not on the branch but on her own wings." - Unknown

Most of my life I struggled with personal boundaries. What is that, you may ask? Personal boundaries refer to the physical, emotional, and psychological limits that individuals set for themselves to protect their own well-being and ensure that their needs are met and they are not giving their power away. These boundaries define what is acceptable behavior from others and what is not. I personally have come to understand the importance of having this in my life and I believe as a society we are realizing just how important it is to our overall health. I never knew how to set personal boundaries much less adhere to them. What I realized, though, is that when I would say yes to something that I truly was not excited about doing I was miserable. One of the worst arguments I had with a spouse was on vacation. Vacations are supposed to be fun, exciting, relaxing, right? Well, he didn’t get the memo on that one. He had every moment planned out and it really did not leave much room for what I wanted to do or who I wanted to see. We argued the whole time and it ended up with me demanding that he stop the car – on a busy interstate – and me exiting the car. I’ve only been that angry a few times since then and as I look back on those incidents they all involved giving away my power to someone and not standing in my Divine authenticity.

Dear Angels, I believe the term includes the word personal because it truly is. When someone disregards another person’s feelings and barrels forward without consideration of the effects of their actions, it is a message that “you don’t matter.” It took me years to realize that I do matter and that came from learning how to love myself and set boundaries that I was comfortable standing up for. Whenever these boundaries are tested in my life, I reflect back to one of the last conversations I had with my dad where he told me to “never let anyone walk all over you.” I did for many years, Dad, but eventually I got what you were trying to say to me.

Dear Ones, as you learn to cohabit in your world this issue becomes of utmost importance. It is not an easy lesson to learn but it is one that is common among those who are here for such a time as this. You are needed in your world with all its challenges. It is imperative that you find that spark inside of you that lights the way to your higher self. In connecting with who you truly are, you will know that pure love never diminishes your importance, never criticizes your feelings and desires, and will always try to lift you up to be the best you can be. You cannot accomplish this if you are not seen or heard. Dear Ones, start by honoring yourself. If you do not, then how do you expect others around you to do so? Be true to your feelings. Listen to your heart in all situations. If something does not feel right for you, it is not right for you. Keep it simple. When you start overthinking and over analyzing, then doubt creeps in and you will self-sabotage. Your only function is to love, so start with where you are and that love will guide you to more love.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste y’all.

Today, I promise to stick to my boundaries and give myself unconditional love – and no more getting out of cars on a busy interstate.
