CHOOSE PEACE OVER ANGER

Sunset over a sunflower field, bright golden light flooding yellow blooms with trees silhouetted on the horizon.

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”  ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

When we give in to anger, we are robbing ourselves of the opportunity to allow peace to win. Anger is a natural human emotion. It can alert us that something feels unfair, that a boundary has been crossed, or that a wound within us is asking to be healed. The problem isn't that we become angry. The problem comes when we choose to stay there.

Emerson's quote is a beautiful reminder that every moment we spend holding onto anger is a moment we cannot fully experience joy. We cannot be consumed by resentment and filled with peace at the same time. One eventually gives way to the other, and we get to decide which emotion we will nurture.

Have you ever noticed how one upsetting conversation can replay over and over in your mind? Hours later—or even days later—you may still be having the same argument in your head while the other person has long since moved on. During all that time, life continues offering beautiful moments that are easy to miss: a child's laughter, a breathtaking sunset, a friend's kind smile, the song of a bird outside your window, or the quiet whisper of God reminding you that everything will be okay.

When our attention remains fixed on what hurt us, we lose sight of what is blessing us. That doesn't mean we ignore our feelings or pretend everything is fine. Healthy healing begins by acknowledging what we feel. But once we have learned the lesson our anger came to teach us, we can make the conscious choice to release it. Holding onto anger rarely changes another person. More often, it changes us. It steals our energy, clouds our judgment, affects our health, and closes our hearts to the very peace we are longing to experience.

Jesus demonstrated this beautifully throughout His ministry. Even when faced with betrayal, misunderstanding, and cruelty, He continually chose forgiveness over bitterness and compassion over revenge. His example reminds us that forgiveness is not about declaring that what happened was acceptable. It is about refusing to let someone else's actions determine the condition of our own heart.

The Apostle Paul offered similar wisdom when he wrote, "In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry." (Ephesians 4:26). He acknowledged that anger would come, but he encouraged us not to give it a permanent home.

Every day we are presented with countless opportunities to choose. We can replay the hurt, or we can return to the present moment where peace is always waiting. We can continue carrying yesterday's burden, or we can trust God enough to place it into His loving hands. Happiness is not found in a life free from challenges. It is found in our willingness to keep choosing love, again and again, despite them.

Dear Angels, how do we let go of anger when someone has deeply hurt us?

Dear Ones, your emotions are not your enemies; they are your teachers. Anger arrives carrying a message, but it was never meant to become your permanent companion. Listen to what it has come to reveal. Has a boundary been crossed? Has an old wound been reopened? Has your heart forgotten its own worth? Learn the lesson with compassion for yourself. Then, release the burden.

When you continue carrying anger after its lesson has been learned, you are carrying weight that no longer belongs to you. It dims your light, drains your energy, and keeps your attention focused on the past instead of the blessings unfolding before you. Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts you can offer yourself. It does not erase the past, nor does it excuse harmful behavior. It simply declares that your peace is more valuable than your pain.

Each moment offers you a new beginning. Each breath is another invitation to return to love. Choose peace, not because life has become perfect, but because your soul was created to live in the freedom of Divine Love. We are always beside you, gently reminding you that peace is never far away. It is only one loving choice away.

Angels Whisper: Every minute spent choosing peace over anger is a minute reclaimed for joy. Let go of what weighs upon your heart, forgive what no longer serves your soul, and allow the light of Divine Love to restore the happiness that has always been waiting within you.

Today, I promise to always choose peace over anger.
