“There are more things likely to frighten us than there are to crush us; we suffer more often in imagination than in reality .” Seneca
How much of our suffering is real, and how much is created by the stories we tell ourselves? I think about this as different situations arise in my own life as well as in those around me. The human mind has an incredible imagination. It is capable of creating magnificent works of art, breathtaking inventions, and beautiful dreams. Yet that same imagination can also become a factory of fear. We imagine conversations that never happen, disasters that never occur, illnesses that never manifest, and failures that never come to pass. Before long, we find ourselves exhausted—not because of what is happening, but because of what we believe might happen. Seneca understood this nearly two thousand years ago. Fear often lives in our imagination long before it ever has a chance to become reality.
At the same time, I don't believe we came into this earthly experience to avoid every challenge. If we only manifested pleasant experiences, comfortable circumstances, and endless ease, we would miss many of the opportunities our souls came here to embrace. We did not incarnate simply to sit in a rocking chair and be waited on while life passed us by. Every experience offers a lesson. Every challenge carries within it a hidden gift. Every obstacle invites us to become stronger, wiser, more compassionate, and more deeply connected with the Divine.
There have been many times in my own life when I wished I could skip over the difficult chapters. Kidney failure at twenty years old. A lifetime of health challenges. Unexpected losses. Moments when I questioned whether I had the strength to continue. Looking back now, I am not sure that I would choose those experiences again—but I also cannot deny what they taught me. They deepened my faith. They expanded my compassion for others. They reminded me that miracles often arrive disguised as impossible circumstances. The challenge is not to eliminate every hardship. The challenge is to stop suffering twice—once in our imagination and again if the event actually occurs. When fear begins writing tomorrow's story, gently bring yourself back to today. This moment is where God lives. This moment is where the angels whisper. This moment is where peace can always be found.
One of the greatest spiritual practices we can cultivate is learning to ask ourselves, "Is this actually happening right now?" More often than not, the answer is no. We are borrowing trouble from a future that has not yet arrived. Our thoughts are creative. What we repeatedly dwell upon gains energy. If we constantly rehearse fear, we strengthen fear's voice. But if we rehearse faith, gratitude, love, and possibility, those become the pathways our minds naturally travel. That doesn't mean pretending difficulties don't exist. It means choosing not to let fear become our permanent residence.
The angels have often reminded me that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is choosing love while fear is still whispering in our ear. Perhaps today is an invitation to notice what stories your imagination has been creating. Are they empowering you? Or are they keeping you from living fully? Life is meant to be experienced—not feared. Take the next step anyway. Love anyway. Dream anyway. Trust anyway.
The future will unfold one moment at a time, just as it always has. And when each lesson arrives, you will discover something wonderful: you are far stronger, wiser, and more divinely supported than your imagination ever allowed you to believe.
Dear Angels, how can we quiet the fearful stories our minds create?
Dear Ones, your imagination is one of the greatest gifts you have been given. It was never meant to imprison you; it was created to help you envision Heaven on Earth. When fear paints pictures before you, simply ask, "Is this love speaking?" If the answer is no, lovingly release the thought and choose another. Feed your mind with gratitude, hope, beauty, and possibility. The more often you choose love over fear, the more natural it becomes. Remember, we walk beside you through every lesson. You have never faced a single challenge alone, and you never will.
Angels Whisper: Fear imagines the worst. Faith imagines the best. Choose the vision that allows your soul to soar.
Today, I promise to choose faith over fear. Every time.
