"Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful." — Annette Funicello
Perspective, perspective, perspective. Life can be anything we choose to make of it, yet so many times we postpone our happiness while waiting for conditions to be “right.” We tell ourselves, I’ll be happy when this problem is resolved. I’ll relax when I have more money. I’ll enjoy life when I have more time. I’ll feel peaceful when everything settles down. And then something else happens.
There is always another challenge, another decision, another unexpected detour. If we require everything to be perfect before we allow ourselves to experience joy, we may spend our entire lives waiting for a moment that never arrives. Perhaps the greater lesson is learning to see the wonder that exists right alongside the imperfection.
A rainy day can ruin our plans—or give us permission to slow down and listen to the raindrops. A wrong turn can frustrate us—or lead us somewhere we never would have discovered otherwise. A delay can feel like an inconvenience—or it can be Divine timing protecting us, redirecting us, or putting us exactly where we need to be.
It is all about perspective. Perfection is such an interesting concept because what does it really mean? My idea of a perfect day may look completely different from yours. What I see as a problem, someone else may see as an opportunity. What feels like a closed door today may someday be remembered as the greatest blessing we could have received. When we release our attachment to how we think life should look, we create room to appreciate how beautiful it already is. There is a tremendous freedom in saying, This moment may not be perfect, but there is something wonderful here. Maybe the wonderful thing is the person sitting beside you. Maybe it is the bird singing outside your window. Maybe it is having another morning to open your eyes and begin again. Maybe it is the opportunity to learn something about yourself that you could not have learned any other way. Sometimes the wonder is obvious, and sometimes we have to look for it. Gratitude helps us look.
When we intentionally search for something to appreciate, our perspective begins to shift. The problem may still be there, but it is no longer the only thing we see. We begin to notice the blessings surrounding the challenge. We recognize the helping hands, the unexpected kindness, the synchronicities, the laughter, the lessons and the little miracles that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
This does not mean pretending that difficult experiences are wonderful. There are times when life hurts. There are moments of disappointment, grief, uncertainty and frustration that deserve to be acknowledged. Spirituality is not about denying our human experience. It is about remembering that our human experience is not the whole story. There is always more happening than what we can see from our limited perspective.
The angels remind us again and again that we do not have to understand the entire journey to appreciate the step we are taking today. We do not need to know how everything will work out before we choose peace. We do not have to wait for every piece of the puzzle to fall into place before we allow ourselves to smile.
Wonderful does not mean flawless.
Wonderful means being present enough to recognize the sacredness tucked inside an ordinary moment.
Wonderful means laughing when things do not go according to plan.
Wonderful means loving people who are beautifully imperfect—and allowing them to love our imperfections as well.
Wonderful means waking up and realizing, I am still here. I still have choices. I still have opportunities to love, learn, grow and make a difference.
Perhaps that is perfection after all.
Dear Angels, why do we struggle so much with accepting life as it is instead of waiting for everything to become perfect before we allow ourselves to be happy?
Dear Ones, you have been taught to look toward a future moment and say, “When I arrive there, then I will be happy.” Yet when you arrive, another destination appears on the horizon. We invite you to stop postponing your joy.
Heaven is not asking you to create a flawless life. Your soul did not enter this human experience expecting every road to be smooth, every relationship to be effortless or every desire to unfold exactly according to your plans. You came to experience. You came to discover. You came to love. You came to grow.
And yes, Dear Ones, you came to find joy in places where you once believed joy could not exist. Look around you today. Instead of asking what is wrong, ask what is wonderful. Instead of focusing only on what is missing, notice what has already been given. Instead of demanding that the path straighten before you take another step, trust that the Divine can guide you even around the curves.
There is beauty in your unfinished story.
There is grace in your uncertainty.
There are miracles hiding inside moments you once called mistakes.
There is love surrounding you even when you cannot see it.
Release the picture of how you believe your life must look before you can call it beautiful. Open your heart to the life that is unfolding before you now. You may discover that the imperfect moment you are standing in contains more blessings than the perfect moment you have been waiting for.
Choose joy now.
Choose gratitude now.
Choose peace now.
Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful, Dear Ones. It simply asks you to be present enough to notice the wonder.
Angels Whisper: Stop waiting for the perfect moment. Look for the sacred beauty within this one. Your life is already filled with wonder—you only need the perspective to see it.
Today, I promise to be happy.
