HEART MEETING HEART

Two giant pandas cuddling beside a tree in a forest, black-and-white fur close together, calm and affectionate.

"The best gift you can give is a hug: one size fits all and no one ever minds if you return it." ~ Marge Piercy

What is it about a hug that can make things seem right again? There is something almost magical about wrapping our arms around another human being. No words are necessary. No explanations have to be offered. For those few moments, two people simply connect heart to heart. A hug says, I see you. I am here. You are loved.

We often think of communication as something that happens through words, yet some of our most powerful conversations happen in silence. When you hug someone, your energy meets theirs in a way that allows connection on a much deeper level. The walls come down. The heart softens. For a moment, whatever separates us seems to disappear. Think about the times you have needed a hug most. Perhaps you were grieving and there were simply no words that could touch the depth of your sadness. Maybe you were frightened and needed reassurance. Perhaps you received wonderful news and a hug became an expression of shared joy. Or maybe someone hugged you for no particular reason at all, and somehow that simple gesture changed your entire day. There is healing in that connection.

I believe hugs remind us of something our souls already know—we were never meant to journey through this life without connection. We need one another. We need those moments when another person reaches beyond words and says with their presence, You do not have to stand here alone.

Jesus showed us the importance of touch. Throughout Scripture, we see Him reaching toward people. He touched those others would not touch. He welcomed children into His arms. He allowed people to come close to Him. His love was not something He simply spoke about; it was something people could experience through His presence. Perhaps that is part of the beauty of a hug. Love becomes tangible.

Energy flows where love goes. When we embrace another person with genuine compassion, we create a sacred exchange. We give some of our light and receive some of theirs. Neither person walks away quite the same. And what I love about Marge Piercy's words is the reminder that this gift is meant to be returned. A hug is one of the few gifts that becomes even more beautiful when someone gives it right back.

Imagine what our world would look like if we offered more safe, welcome affection, more compassion, and more heart-centered connection. We might not solve every problem with a hug, but perhaps we could remind each other that beneath all the differences, opinions, struggles and stories, there is a human heart longing to love and be loved. Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is simply open our arms.

Dear Angels, why does something as simple as a hug have the power to touch us on a deeper level?

Dear Ones, because when you embrace another with love, you are speaking the language of the soul. Your physical bodies may appear separate, but your energy recognizes the Divine light within each other. In a loving embrace, the mind becomes quiet for a moment and the heart is allowed to speak. A hug says what words sometimes cannot: I acknowledge you. I honor your journey. I share this moment with you.

Do not underestimate these simple expressions of love. You often look for grand ways to serve humanity while overlooking the sacred opportunities placed directly before you. A smile, a hand held in compassion, a listening ear, an embrace offered with love—these are instruments of peace. There will be moments when you cannot change another person's circumstances. You cannot remove their grief, erase their disappointment or walk their journey for them. But you can stand beside them. You can surround them with love. You can remind them through your presence that they are seen.

Every loving connection creates a ripple. Every compassionate embrace adds more love to your world. So when your heart guides you to reach out, do so with love and respect. You may never know how much that simple moment was needed.

Angels Whisper: Sometimes heaven reaches us through a pair of open arms. Give love freely, receive it gratefully, and never underestimate the healing power of heart meeting heart.

Today, I promise to give as many hugs as I can in my lifetime.
