THE DIVINE SPARK

“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” —Aristotle
We cannot see light itself; we only see the sources of light and what the light reveals. Think about that for a moment. We see the sun. We see the flame of a candle. We see the stars sparkling against the night sky. We see the glow of a lamp illuminating a room. Yet light itself becomes known to us through its interaction with the world around us. Perhaps spiritual light works much the same way.
We may not be able to physically see the presence of God, the angels, or the Divine energy that surrounds us, yet we can see what that Light touches. We see it in compassion. We see it in kindness. We see it when someone reaches out a hand to another person who is struggling. We see it in forgiveness, hope, generosity, and those beautiful moments when love appears exactly when it is needed. Sometimes we recognize the Light most clearly because we have experienced darkness.
A candle burning in the middle of a brightly lit room may barely attract our attention. Put that same candle in complete darkness and suddenly it becomes the most important thing in the room. One tiny flame changes everything. Isn't life like that?
There are times when we travel through experiences that feel overwhelmingly dark. We may experience loss, disappointment, uncertainty, loneliness, fear, or circumstances we simply do not understand. During those moments, our attention naturally goes toward what is wrong. The darkness seems enormous because it is all we can see. Yet somewhere within that darkness there is always Light. Sometimes it arrives through another person. Sometimes it comes through a prayer. Sometimes it is a song that touches our heart, a message that appears at exactly the right moment, a stranger's kindness, a friend's phone call, or the quiet inner voice whispering, “Keep going.”
And sometimes we discover that we are the source through which the Light is being expressed. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” What a powerful reminder. He did not tell us that someday, after we become perfect or enlightened enough, we might become light. He reminded us of what is already within us. You are the light.
That means every time you choose love instead of fear, you shine.
Every time you offer compassion instead of judgment, you shine.
Every time you encourage someone who is ready to give up, you shine.
Every time you forgive, pray, serve, listen, comfort, or simply sit beside someone who is hurting, Divine Light has found another way into the world.
We often ask God to send us a sign that everything will be okay. Perhaps sometimes the answer is that we are being asked to become that sign for someone else. The beautiful thing about light is that it does not have to fight darkness. Turn on a lamp and darkness simply gives way. Light does not argue with darkness, condemn it, analyze it, or fear it. It simply shines. Maybe that is our invitation as well. The world does not need us to spend all of our energy fighting against everything we perceive as darkness. Perhaps our greatest contribution is to increase the Light.
Love more.
Forgive more.
Encourage more.
Pray more.
Serve more.
Be kinder.
Shine brighter.
There will inevitably be dark moments along this earthly journey. Yet darkness does not mean that the Light has disappeared. Sometimes it simply means we must become still enough, focused enough, and aware enough to notice where the Light is shining. And if you cannot find it anywhere around you, look within. There is a Divine spark inside of you that no darkness can extinguish.
Dear Angels, when life feels dark and I cannot see the way forward, how do I find the Light?
Dear Ones, do not mistake darkness for the absence of Light. There are moments along your earthly journey when you will not understand the path before you. You may search for answers and find none. You may ask for signs and believe none have appeared. You may wonder where God is and why the angels seem silent. We assure you, beloved ones, you have never walked alone.
When the road ahead cannot be seen, you are being invited to walk by the Light that is available in this moment. You do not need enough Light to illuminate the entire journey. You need only enough to take the next step.
Look for the smallest glimmer. A loving word. A moment of peace. A person who cares. A sudden knowing within your heart. A sunrise. A bird singing outside your window. A breath.
These things may seem small, yet Heaven often speaks softly. Remember also that you are not merely searching for Light. You carry Light. The Divine spark within you remains untouched by every storm you have encountered. It was there through every heartbreak, every disappointment, every ending, and every moment when you wondered whether you could continue. And still you are here. Still you love. Still you hope. Still you shine. When you cannot see the Light ahead of you, beloved, allow the Light within you to illuminate the next step. Then take it. We will walk with you.
Angels Whisper: You do not need to see the whole road to know that Light is guiding you. Sometimes the darkness simply helps you recognize how brightly your soul has been shining all along.
Today, I promise to shine.
