MOUNTAINSIDE MEANDERING

Winding mountain road surrounded by green hills under a blue sky. Yellow road signs and lush vegetation create a scenic, tranquil view.

“The long and winding road that leads to your door

Will never disappear, I've seen that road before

It always leads me here, lead me to your door.” The Beatles

I know the road well that leads to my sister’s house. I have traveled it many times during my life. The first eight to nine hours of the drive went by uneventfully with light traffic and my favorite singer serenading me in between my favorite author being read on audio. I had been warned already about rain and storm possibilities as I drew closer to my destination. I had dry roads until the last two hours and then the sky decided to open. It had been a long day and my eyes were tired from the road. Turning onto the smaller country roads on a dark, wet and foggy night was not on my agenda. After the final turn onto the mountain road that stood in between me and my sister, I let out a sigh and asked the angels to please take over. The road is filled with curves where you feel like you have completed a circle. I thanked God out loud for the big yellow signs with warning about the upcoming curves or else I would have ended up going down the side of the mountain. When the car finally came to a stop, I could feel my body collapse from the long hours of sitting and having to always be so diligently aware. I looked out the window and saw my sweet sister who had waited up for me to arrive. All was well again. Coming home to family is one of the sweetest joys of life. I thought of the challenges and struggles encountered as we walk on this earth. All the mountains where we sometimes feel we are just going in circles and sometimes meet ourselves before we can continue to go forward. I thought about the light at the end of the tunnel when we make that final turn and let out a sigh of relief that we made it through yet another of life’s challenges. Each one brings us growth and opportunities to appreciate the lesson. If we allow ourselves to explore in a healthy way what we went through, we can look at it with fresh eyes and ask to be shown the meaning instead of looking at ourselves as victims. The road was not my enemy – it was just there as a means to an end. The mountain was not punishing me while I was vulnerable and tired. The rain would have happened whether I was there or not. We are not victims to our circumstances. We make choices every moment of every day. I had a choice in which route to take to get to my destination. I made the choice of the way to go and weighed the factors of each route before making my decision, so I could not even blame the GPS for its part in the experience. Becoming empowered means owning our choices and dealing with the consequences of each one.

Dear Angels, sometimes when we are in the midst of a storm we cannot see our part in finding ourselves in our circumstances. How can we develop a more empowered understanding about choices, especially when things seem to be out of our control?

Dear Ones,  when you are standing in the center of the storm, it can feel as though life is happening to you, as if you are being tossed around like the debris in a tornado. The winds of circumstance can be loud, disorienting, and relentless. In those moments, you often look outward for answers, trying to make sense of what feels chaotic and beyond your control. Yet we gently remind you—there is always a point of power within you, even when you cannot immediately see it. Empowerment does not come from controlling the storm. It comes from recognizing your relationship to it. You are not responsible for every storm that arises. Some are collective, some are karmic, some are simply part of the human experience of contrast and growth. However, within every circumstance, you hold the sacred ability to choose your response. This is where your power lives—in the space between what happens and how you meet it. When clarity feels distant, begin not with judgment, but with curiosity. Ask yourself, “What is this moment inviting me to see, to feel, to understand?” This shifts you from victimhood into awareness. Awareness opens the doorway to choice. Understand, Dear Ones, that choices are not always made in grand, sweeping actions. Often, they are subtle with invitations to pause, to breathe, to soften and yes, even to trust.

These small, conscious choices create a ripple that changes your experience from the inside out. Release the need to assign blame—to yourself or to others. Blame anchors you in the past and clouds your vision. Instead, step into responsibility, which is simply your ability to respond with awareness. Responsibility is not a burden; it is a doorway back into your power. Your thoughts shape your perception. Your perception shapes your energy. And your energy shapes the path that unfolds before you. Growth often happens in hindsight. It is perfectly human to only recognize your part after the storm has passed. This does not mean you failed—it means you are awakening.

You are not at the mercy of your life, dear ones. You are co-creators within it.

Angels Whisper: Within every storm lives a still point of light—and that light is you. Choose gently. Choose consciously. Even the smallest shift in your awareness becomes the doorway to your freedom.

Today, I promise to watch the fog lift as I become more aware of my choices.
