IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS

“Don’t ever be ashamed of loving the strange things that make your weird little heart happy.” Elizabeth Gilbert
I have always believed that it is the little things in life that bring us the greatest joy. The aroma of fresh coffee brewing in the morning. A field of daisies dancing in the breeze. The unexpected text from a friend that arrives at exactly the right moment. The sound of birds singing outside the window. A butterfly crossing your path. A smile from a stranger. These seemingly insignificant moments have a way of touching our hearts in profound ways.
Many people spend their lives chasing happiness as if it were a destination. They believe happiness will arrive when they win the lottery, retire from work, buy a bigger house, lose twenty pounds, or find the perfect romantic partner. While those things may bring moments of pleasure, true happiness does not originate outside of us. Happiness is an inside job.
The angels have often reminded me that joy is not something we acquire—it is something we uncover. It already exists within us. The challenge is not finding happiness; it is removing the barriers that prevent us from experiencing it. As children, we instinctively understood this. We found delight in puddles, fireflies, crayons, and cardboard boxes. We did not need extravagant experiences to feel wonder. Somewhere along the way, many of us were taught that happiness had to be earned, purchased, or achieved. What if we returned to the simple things? What if we stopped apologizing for the things that light us up? Perhaps your heart smiles when you collect rocks from every place you visit. Maybe you love watching clouds drift across the sky or talking to your plants. Maybe you find comfort in old books, coloring pages, wind chimes, starry nights, or listening to the same song over and over again. The world may call these things strange, silly, or unimportant. The angels call them sacred.
Every soul has its own unique language of joy. What nourishes one person's spirit may not resonate with another, and that is perfectly okay. We were never meant to be identical. We were created with different passions, interests, gifts, and expressions. The things that make your "weird little heart happy" are clues. They point toward your authentic self. They remind you who you are beneath the expectations of others. When we embrace those simple pleasures without judgment, we begin to cultivate gratitude. Gratitude shifts our focus from what is missing to what is already present. In that shift, happiness naturally blossoms. The next time something small brings a smile to your face, pause and savor it. Do not dismiss it as insignificant. Those tiny moments are often the breadcrumbs Heaven leaves along the path. Life is not measured solely by grand accomplishments and milestone events. It is also measured by cups of coffee, blooming flowers, heartfelt conversations, sunsets, laughter, and all the little moments that quietly remind us that being alive is a gift.
Dear Angels, why do the smallest things often bring us the greatest happiness?
Dear Ones, because the smallest things invite you into the present moment. Joy does not live in the future waiting for your arrival. It lives here and now. When you stop chasing happiness and begin noticing it, you discover that it has been beside you all along. The simple pleasures of life are reminders of the Divine Presence that surrounds you. Every flower, every smile, every act of kindness is an invitation to return to love, gratitude, and wonder.
Angels Whisper: Stop waiting for life to become extraordinary before allowing yourself to be happy. The miracle is already unfolding in the ordinary moments. Treasure the little things. They are often the greatest gifts of all.
Today, I promise to enjoy and appreciate the “little” things in life.
