GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT – CHOOSE WHAT YOU CONSUME

We pay a great deal of attention to what we put into our physical bodies. We read labels, consider ingredients, talk about nutrition, and try to make choices that will give us energy and help our bodies function at their best. Yet how often do we give that same consideration to what we are feeding our minds? What you read, watch, listen to, and engage with every day becomes food for your brain. Every conversation, television program, social media post, news story, podcast, book, and song is planting something in the fertile soil of your consciousness. Some days we overload our brains with information. Other days we may not give them enough stimulation at all. Perhaps the answer, as with so many things in life, is balance. The bigger question may be: What kind of information are we consuming?
Years ago, when I worked with computers, there was a familiar phrase in programming: garbage in, garbage out. If faulty or meaningless information is entered into a computer, the output will also be faulty or meaningless. The computer can only process what it has been given. Our minds work in much the same way. If we continually feed our minds fear, anger, division, gossip, criticism, violence, and negativity, we cannot be surprised when anxious or negative thoughts begin showing up. We have been planting those seeds. On the other hand, when we intentionally nourish our minds with wisdom, compassion, gratitude, beauty, laughter, prayer, uplifting music, meaningful conversations, and thoughts of possibility, we are preparing very different soil.
This does not mean ignoring what is happening in the world. Being spiritually conscious does not require us to put our heads in the sand. It means becoming discerning about how much we consume, what we allow to influence us, and how long we permit something to occupy sacred space within our consciousness. We can know what is happening without allowing it to become what is happening inside of us. There is tremendous power in setting boundaries around information.
Maybe we don't need to watch the news for hours. Maybe we don't need to read every comment on social media. Maybe we don't need to participate in every argument that appears in our feed. Maybe sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is turn off the screen, step outside, listen to the birds, breathe deeply, pray, meditate, read something inspirational, or simply sit quietly with God. Our attention is precious. Where we place it matters. The Apostle Paul gave beautiful advice when he wrote:
"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." — Philippians 4:8
Perhaps those words are even more relevant in today's information-saturated world. We cannot always control what appears before us, but we can decide what we continue to give our attention to. We can become the gatekeepers of our own consciousness. Before consuming something, we might simply ask: Is this nourishing me or draining me? Is this expanding my heart or feeding my fear? Is this something I want to plant in the garden of my mind? Because today's thoughts become tomorrow's beliefs, and our beliefs influence the choices that create our lives. Choose your seeds wisely.
Dear Angels, how can we remain informed and engaged in the world without allowing all the negativity and overwhelming information around us to disturb our inner peace?
Dear Ones, your mind is sacred ground. Treat it as you would a beautiful garden. You would not knowingly scatter weeds throughout a garden you lovingly tended and then wonder why the flowers struggled to grow. Yet every day you are planting seeds within your consciousness through the things upon which you place your attention.
You do not have to fear the world or hide from it. Simply become conscious of what you invite to remain within you. Notice what brings peace and what creates turmoil. Notice what opens your heart and what causes it to contract. Notice what inspires you to love more deeply, dream more boldly, and live more compassionately. Then choose.
You are not powerless before the endless stream of information surrounding you. You are the guardian at the gate of your consciousness. Feed your mind wisdom. Feed your heart love. Feed your soul beauty. Spend time in silence where the noise of the world cannot drown out the whispers of the Divine.
There will always be voices competing for your attention. Learn to recognize the ones that lead you toward peace. What you repeatedly give your attention to eventually becomes part of you. Therefore, Dear Ones, fill your inner garden with seeds worthy of the magnificent life you are creating.
Angels Whisper: Be mindful of what you plant in the sacred garden of your mind. What you water with your attention will grow. Choose thoughts that nourish your soul, expand your heart, and lead you home to peace.
