CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE

“You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.” Max Ehrmann
I have stood in awe before some of the greatest sights in the world. I have gazed across the vast grandeur of the Grand Canyon and wondered how anything could be so magnificent. I have walked among the beautiful temples of India and felt the sacred energy of centuries of prayer and devotion. I have stood in the presence of Mount Shasta, feeling its majesty rise before me. I have watched Kilauea remind us that Mother Earth is alive beneath our feet. I have stood in London and looked upon Big Ben and London Bridge, places I had seen in pictures for most of my life and could hardly believe I was finally seeing with my own eyes.
Each experience brought its own sense of wonder. Traveling the world on the Peace On Earth Tour has given me moments when there simply were no words. I could only stand there, breathe it in and whisper, “Thank you, God.” Yet, after seeing so many extraordinary places, I have come to understand something. None of them compare to the miracle of being in the presence of someone you love.
A canyon can take your breath away, but it cannot hug you.
A mountain can remind you of the majesty of creation, but it cannot laugh with you.
A temple can fill you with reverence, but it cannot sit across the table and share memories with you.
A volcano can show you the incredible power of Mother Earth, but it cannot look into your eyes and say, “I love you.”
Perhaps we sometimes overlook our greatest wonders because they are so familiar to us.
We travel thousands of miles to see magnificent landscapes and sacred places while forgetting that there are sacred places sitting right beside us. They are called family. Friends. Soul companions. The people who have walked into our lives and left footprints on our hearts.
Max Ehrmann reminds us that we are children of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. Think about that for a moment. We look upward at a sky filled with stars and call it magnificent, yet the person standing beside us is made from the same Divine creation. You are a wonder of the universe. So is the person you love. So is the stranger you pass on the street. So is the person who challenges you. Every human being carries within them the breath of the Divine.
Maybe this is one of the ways we “keep peace in our soul” amid the noisy confusion of life. We remember what matters. Life can become very noisy. There are schedules, responsibilities, disagreements, worries and endless distractions competing for our attention. It is easy to become so caught up in doing life that we forget to actually experience it. Then there are those moments when everything else disappears.
A hug that lasts a little longer than usual.
Laughter around a table.
Holding the hand of someone you love.
A conversation that goes deep into the heart.
Sitting quietly together without needing to say anything at all.
These moments may never appear on anyone's bucket list, yet they are some of life's greatest treasures.
I am grateful for every magnificent place my journey has taken me. I am grateful for every mountain, ocean, temple, desert, river and sacred site that has reminded me how vast and beautiful this universe truly is. But I am even more grateful for the souls who have shared this journey with me. At the end of the day, perhaps the greatest wonders of the world are not places at all. They are people.
Dear Angels, how can we remember to see the sacredness in the people who share our lives?
Dear Ones, you search the heavens for signs of Divine presence, yet Divine presence is all around you. It shines through the eyes of those you love. It reaches for you through the hand of a friend. It speaks through a kind word, a shared laugh and even the silence between two hearts that understand each other.
Do not wait until someone is gone to recognize the miracle of their presence. Look deeply at those who walk beside you. See beyond personality, history and human imperfection. See the light within them. Each soul you encounter is part of the great tapestry of creation, just as surely as the mountains, oceans, trees and stars. The world will always have noise. Peace does not require the noise to disappear. Peace comes when you remember who you are in the midst of it.
You are a child of the Divine.
You belong here.
You are part of this magnificent universe.
And so is everyone you meet.
Honor the sacred places of your Earth, Dear Ones, but also honor the sacred souls who journey upon her with you. Tell them you love them. Hold them close. Laugh together. Forgive quickly. Listen deeply. Be fully present. For one day you will understand that these seemingly ordinary moments were never ordinary at all. They were holy.
Angels Whisper: Look around you today. The stars are magnificent, the mountains are majestic and the oceans are breathtaking—but never overlook the miracle sitting beside you. Love is the greatest wonder you will ever witness.
Today, I promise to look upon my loved ones with awe and wonder.
