DON’T BLAME THE WATER – A DEEP LESSON IN AWARENESS

"When you're drowning, don't blame the water." Korean Proverb
Last night, just before sleep carried me into dreamtime, I heard these words echo gently through my awareness. I had never consciously encountered this proverb before — at least not in this lifetime. It felt like a whisper placed carefully in my spirit, as if the angels were nudging me toward reflection. By morning, curiosity led me to research the phrase, and I discovered it is an old Korean proverb. How profound and simple. How often do we feel as though we are drowning — in responsibilities, finances, health concerns, relationships, or the noise of the world? And how quickly do we blame “the water”?
Metaphorically, many things can consume us until we feel overwhelmed. Yet the water itself is not malicious. Water simply behaves according to its nature. It is neutral. It flows. It surrounds. It supports — or overwhelms — depending on our preparedness. Sometimes we leap into the deep end without first testing the depth. We act before we pause. We respond before we reflect. We speak before we seek understanding. Knowledge is a gift. Awareness is a lifeline. And the sacred pause is the breath that keeps us afloat. As someone who has spent years coaching others — and learning my own lessons along the way — I recognize how easy it is to look outward when life feels heavy. It takes courage to turn inward and ask, “What part did I play in this?”
Dear Angels, when life feels overwhelming and we are struggling to stay afloat, how do we take responsibility without falling into guilt or shame?
Dear Ones, water is not your enemy. It is your teacher. When you feel as though you are drowning, it is rarely the circumstance alone that suffocates you. It is resistance, fear, or unexamined choices that tighten around your breath. Life flows — sometimes gently, sometimes swiftly — but always in motion. You are not meant to fight the water. You are meant to learn how to move within it. Responsibility is not blame. Responsibility is empowerment. When you accept that your thoughts, decisions, and perceptions contribute to your experience, you reclaim your strength. Shame says, “I am wrong.” Wisdom says, “I am learning.”
Before diving into any situation, pause. Ask:
Is this aligned with my highest good?
Do I have the knowledge I need?
Am I acting from love or from fear?
Dear Ones, the pause is sacred. It creates space between impulse and action. In that space, clarity lives. If you have already jumped into deep waters, do not condemn yourself. Instead, breathe. Float. Adjust. Growth often happens when you realize you are capable of more than you believed. The depth teaches resilience. The struggle builds strength. The water is not against you. It reveals what you have yet to master. Trust that you are learning to swim in every season of your life.
Angels Whisper: You are not drowning — you are discovering your strength. Pause. Breathe. Adjust your movement. The water is not the problem. It is the classroom.
Today, I promise to look before I leap into the water.
