BRAVER THAN YOUR FEAR – CHOOSE THE ROSE

“Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.” Alphonse Karr
How we view the world determines how we experience it. A simple perspective shift can transform an ordinary moment into a miracle. I have often heard it said that how you do one thing is how you do everything. If that is true, then the way we look at a rose says more about our inner landscape than we realize. A rose comes with thorns. That is not a flaw — it is part of its design. Yet many of us hesitate. We see the sharp edges first. We imagine the pain. We brace ourselves. Fear whispers, “What if you get hurt?” And so we admire from a distance. We protect ourselves from possible discomfort and in doing so, we sometimes protect ourselves from beauty too. How many opportunities for joy have we passed by because of the thorns?
The thorn may represent rejection, disappointment, vulnerability, or past trauma. The rose represents love, growth, connection, and abundance. Both exist together. Resilience is not pretending the thorns are not there. It is choosing to reach anyway. When we dare to gently hold the rose, something extraordinary happens. The fragrance fills the air. The room brightens. Our senses awaken. Beauty does not eliminate risk — but it reminds us that life is meant to be experienced, not avoided. This is the heart of a gratitude mindset. Instead of focusing on what could wound us, we choose to focus on what could bless us. Instead of asking, “Why is this hard?” we begin asking, “Where is the gift?” In every challenge, there is a rose hidden among the thorns. In every hardship, there is an invitation to spiritual growth. In every disappointment, there is an opportunity for deeper wisdom.
When we live with mindful awareness, we see that the thorns often protect the very beauty we seek. The struggles we have endured may have strengthened us. The detours may have redirected us toward something better. The boundaries we learned to set may have preserved our peace. Life will not remove every thorn. But it will always offer roses.
Dear Angels, how do we overcome fear when the thorns of life feel sharp and overwhelming?
Dear Ones, fear is often a memory of pain, not a prophecy of the future. It is an echo — a protective whisper from a moment when you felt vulnerable. Honor that whisper, but do not let it command your life. The past may inform you, but it does not own you. You are not asked to ignore the thorn. You are not asked to pretend that challenges do not exist. You are asked to remember your strength. You have survived every difficult day that once felt impossible. You have risen after heartbreak. You have found light after uncertainty. The very fact that you are here reading these words is evidence of your resilience. Approach life gently, with awareness rather than avoidance. Awareness says, “I see the thorn, and I choose how to handle it.” Avoidance says, “I will not go near beauty because it might hurt.” One keeps you empowered. The other keeps you small. The thorns teach discernment. They help you set boundaries. They refine your wisdom. They show you where to slow down, where to be mindful, where to handle with care. The roses teach love. They remind you of softness, fragrance, intimacy, and joy. Both are sacred teachers in your spiritual growth. Choose courage over fear. Fear is constricting in every aspect. Courage opens you. It says, “I am willing to experience life fully.” And in that willingness, you discover that you are far more resilient than you believed. You were never fragile — you were learning.
Do not deny the existence of difficulty. Spiritual maturity is not blind optimism. It is steady presence. It is saying, “Yes, this is hard — and I remain whole.” Refuse to let hardship become your identity. It is an experience, not your essence. Practice gratitude, especially when it feels counterintuitive. Gratitude does not dismiss pain; it shifts your vantage point. It trains your vision to notice the rose even while acknowledging the thorn. Over time, this transforms your perception. And perception transforms reality, because what you focus on expands within your awareness. Dear Ones, you are not here to avoid life. You are here to engage it with open eyes and an open heart. The thorn refines you. The rose delights you. Both are guiding you home to your strength.
You are braver than your fear.
You are wiser than your wounds.
And you are always supported in love.
Angels Whisper: Look again. What you thought was a thorn may be guarding a miracle. Choose the rose.
Today, I promise to choose the rose.
