CHILDREN OF THE LAND

Two people with umbrellas look at a waterfall. One wears a green umbrella with patterns, the other gray. Lush trees and cloudy sky in the background.

“Nature is where it all begins for the Hawaiians. In fact, they call themselves keiki o ka 'aina—the ‘children of the land.’” – M. J. Harden

Hawaii is not just a place—it is an embrace of nature itself. To sit in a garden surrounded by trees and flowers, or to linger by the seashore listening to the rhythm of the waves, is to experience a magic that cannot be explained but only felt. It is a nurturing presence that awakens the heart, reminding us that love is always woven into creation. Today, as we drove along the shoreline, there were moments when it felt as though time itself stood still. We breathed deeply, inhaling the beauty before us as if the ocean was offering us its own heartbeat. Each curve of the coast, each shimmer of sunlight on the water, whispered a reminder of the sacred connection between land, sea, and soul. Earlier, we had wandered through a local farmer’s market. The colors, the scents, the laughter of people gathering—it was all alive with aloha. Talking with the vendors, sharing smiles and kindness, I felt the spirit of the island flow so effortlessly. In that simple exchange, my heart sang again, echoing the truth that we are indeed children of this Earth, nourished not only by food and beauty, but by love itself.

Dear Angels: as I soak in the beauty of this island and its people, I wonder—how can we better live as true children of the land, honoring nature the way the Hawaiians do?

Dear Ones, to be a child of the land is to remember your first Mother—the Earth who birthed you, who sustains you, and who welcomes you home again and again. When you walk gently on the soil, when you pause to breathe the fragrance of flowers or taste the sweetness of fruit, you honor this divine bond. Do not think that great acts alone are what restore balance to the Earth. Every smile shared, every kind word spoken, every choice to tread lightly is a thread of harmony woven back into the great tapestry of life. The aloha spirit is not bound by geography—it is the eternal invitation to live in reverence, gratitude, and love wherever you stand. When you see yourself not as separate from nature but as part of her heartbeat, then your soul will recognize the truth—you are keiki o ka 'aina, always.

Angels Whisper: Live as a child of the land, and you will find that the Earth herself sings through your heart.

Today, I promise to spend more time in nature.
