CHANTING LOVE AND PEACE

“Concentrate on a single feeling – love for the Lord – while chanting.”  Unknown

There is a sacred hush that falls upon the soul when we chant with intention. It is as if every syllable becomes a bridge—one that carries us from distraction into devotion, from mind into heart, from human effort into Divine embrace. Years ago, during a beautiful conversation with my dear friend Karen Palmer, she shared that she was beginning nightly chanting and asked if I would join her. Karen and I have a long history of chanting side by side, slipping effortlessly into rhythm and reverence. She introduced me to the life-changing practice of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo through the Soka Gakkai tradition, and what unfolded were five powerful years of nightly chants—sometimes just the two of us, sometimes with a circle of beautiful souls who felt called to the practice. One of those souls was my current host here in India, sweet Pracheta. Today, as I reflect back on my “happy memory of the day,” it is the moment we sat together tonight chanting this beloved mantra once again. A few others joined in, including a new friend whose entire life’s work is dedicated to peace. My heart recognized instantly that angels had orchestrated this meeting—guiding, weaving, arranging—as they always do on this sacred Peace On Earth mission.

My introduction to chanting actually began over thirty years ago when I first encountered the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. He taught that chanting is a doorway to the Divine—a way to quiet the restless “monkey mind,” soften the breath, relax the body, and bring our awareness fully into the presence of the Holy. Chanting gently pulls us out of thought and into experience. It opens the heart. It aligns the breath. It connects us not only with God but with each other in the most tender and timeless way. Here in India, where devotion vibrates in the very air, chanting feels especially profound. Every time my voice merges with others—whether two people or a room full of seekers—I feel the angels leaning in, blessing the sound, magnifying the love, and reminding us that peace is built on moments exactly like these.

Dear Angels, what would you have us know about chanting with love?

Dear Ones, when you chant, you are not simply repeating words— you are tuning your entire being to the frequency of Love. Every syllable becomes a thread of light weaving your heart to the heart of the Divine. Every vibration becomes a prayer rising effortlessly from your soul. Every breath becomes a soft surrender, a holy offering, a quiet “yes” to the presence of God within you. Know this: chanting is not about perfection. It is about resonance. It is about remembrance. It is about returning, again and again, to the sacred place inside you that already knows the Way.

As you chant, your energy shifts. The noise of the world loosens its grip. The mind releases its chatter. The body unclenches from its burdens. You enter the stillness where Heaven draws near— not because you summon Us, but because you allow Us. With every sacred sound, you open a door. Through that door, Divine Light flows. Through that door, healing descends. Through that door, peace expands like ripples in a still pond.

Chant with an open heart, Dear Ones.

Chant with devotion, not obligation.

Chant with trust, knowing that even when your voice trembles, the vibration is perfect to Us.

Chant with the certainty that you are never alone.

For in every holy sound, We are there— lifting you when you feel weary, surrounding you when you feel uncertain, and amplifying your intention when your prayer is for peace. As your voice joins with the eternal song of the Universe, you become a beacon— a living instrument of harmony. Your light touches places you may never see. Your love blesses hearts you may never meet. Your energy ripples into the collective and softens the world in ways you cannot yet fathom. Dear One, keep chanting. Keep loving. Keep offering your voice to the Divine. For every chant is a bridge, every breath a blessing, and every vibration a reminder that you are a holy presence walking the Earth.

Angels Whisper: Let every chant be a heartbeat of love. When your voice trembles with devotion, all of Heaven chants with you.

Today, I promise to be fully aware of the presence of God with every chant.
