ZEN WITHIN

Elderly woman in a white blouse sits on a wooden bench in a lush garden, surrounded by white roses, exuding a serene and contemplative mood.

“The only Zen you find on the tops of mountains is the Zen you bring up there.”  Robert M. Pirsig

There it is—the teaching we all need to hear, remember, and practice daily. This quote landed deeply in my heart. It arrived not as a gentle whisper, but as a clear, loving truth. I have experienced more peace here in India over the last month than I have felt in a very long time—perhaps even since the early days of my spiritual journey under the guidance of my beloved mentor and guru, Paramahansa Yogananda. I have shared this often, noting the stark contrast between the energy here and the energy of my homeland, which at times feels like living inside a boiling pot. As my return draws closer, I found myself quietly wondering: Will this same peace remain when I leave this sacred land? And then—almost immediately—the answer came. I have said it many times, and now I am living the deeper truth of it: wherever you go, you take yourself with you. You bring the version of you that chooses peace, grace, and kindness… or the version that complains, resists, and searches endlessly for happiness outside of itself.

It is not the place.

It is not the circumstance.

It is what lives within you.

My guru’s words echo clearly now: “If you are complaining, you are focused on earthly things.” Peace does not wait for the perfect mountaintop, monastery, or miracle moment. Peace is cultivated within—and then it reveals itself everywhere you stand. And so I gather my peace not as a souvenir of this sacred land, but as a sacred vow. I do not pack it in my suitcase or leave it at the temple gates. I carry it in my breath, in my choices, in the quiet way I meet the world. Whether my feet walk holy ground or crowded streets, I choose to be the stillness I once sought. The mountain was never outside of me. The Zen was never waiting at the summit. It has always lived within my willing heart.

Dear Angels, how do we carry this inner peace with us when we return to lives filled with noise, pressure, and distraction?

Dear Ones, peace is not in the destination; it is a state of remembrance. You do not find it—you become it. Wherever you walk, the energy you hold becomes the lens through which the world is experienced. When you anchor yourself in gratitude, presence, and trust, you bring Heaven with you into every environment. Do not ask if peace will follow you home. Ask instead if you are willing to choose it again and again. Stillness is portable. Grace is transferable. The Divine resides within you, not in any location. When you align with your inner truth, the outer world rearranges itself to meet you there. Carry peace as your practice, not your preference. Let it be your response, not your reaction. In this way, you become the mountain—steady, sacred, and unshaken.

Angels Whisper: Beloved, peace is not something you leave behind or search for ahead. It lives within you. Wherever you stand in love, there We are—and there is your Zen.

Today, I promise to carry peace with me with every step I take, each mile I travel and each bed where I lay my head.
