WHAT IF YOU CAN?

"Never limit yourself because of others’ limited imagination; never limit others because of your own limited imagination" - Mae Jemison
The mind is a powerful thing. Perhaps one of the greatest discoveries we can make in this human experience is realizing just how powerful it is. Neville Goddard taught extensively about imagination and the importance of entering what he called the imaginal state. This is more than daydreaming about something we would like to have. It is not passive fantasy, wishful thinking, or hoping that someday life will change.
An imaginal state is an interior experience where we mentally step inside the reality of the fulfilled desire. Instead of looking at our dream from a distance, we experience it inwardly as though it is already ours. We see from it. We feel from it. We allow ourselves, even for a few moments, to become the person who is already living that reality.
There is a tremendous difference between saying, “Someday I want to be successful,” and closing your eyes and feeling what it is like to already be doing the work you love. There is a difference between wishing for peace and feeling peace so deeply within yourself that you begin carrying it into every room you enter. That is where imagination becomes powerful.
I often wonder what our world would look like if we were taught this as children. What if instead of hearing, “Be realistic,” we heard, “Imagine what is possible”? What if someone had taught us that our circumstances do not determine our worth? What if children were encouraged to dream without immediately being given a list of reasons why their dreams could never happen? How many dreams have been abandoned because someone else could not imagine them?
Mae Jemison's words speak powerfully to this. We must never allow another person's limited vision to become the boundary of our own life. Someone may look at your dream and say, “That will never happen.” What they are really revealing is the boundary of their imagination—not necessarily yours. But there is another side to her wisdom that is equally important: never limit others because of your own limited imagination. Sometimes we unknowingly become the person saying, “You can't.” We may believe we are protecting someone from disappointment. We may think we are being practical. Yet perhaps their dream was never ours to understand. Maybe God placed something inside their heart that we cannot yet see.
Imagine how different our relationships would be if, instead of telling someone why something cannot happen, we asked, “What would it look like if it could?” There is sacred power in allowing another soul to dream.
Throughout my own journey, I have learned that some of the things God calls us toward do not make sense when viewed only through human eyes. The Peace On Earth Tour has taught me that again and again. There have been times when I could not see the next road, the next destination, or how something would come together. Yet I have learned to trust what I see and feel within before the physical evidence appears.
Perhaps imagination and faith are closer companions than we realize. Scripture tells us, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” — Luke 1:37 What happens when we stop arguing for our limitations and begin imagining possibilities?
Dear Angels, how do we move beyond the limitations we have accepted about ourselves?
Dear Ones, begin by noticing whose voice you hear when you say, “I can't.” Is it truly yours? You entered this life carrying possibilities that cannot always be measured by what has happened before. The past may tell you what was, but imagination opens the doorway to what can be.
Do not demand that your dream explain itself before you allow yourself to believe in it. Enter quietly into the sanctuary of your imagination and experience your desire fulfilled. Feel the joy. Feel the peace. Feel the gratitude of already being there. Then return to your day carrying a little of that feeling with you. And when another soul shares a dream with you, resist the urge to measure their possibilities by your experiences. Instead, hold space for them. Encourage the light you see growing within them. You do not know what God has planted in another person's heart. Nor do you yet know the full magnitude of what has been planted in yours.
Angels Whisper: Your imagination was never meant to be a prison built from yesterday's limitations. It is a doorway. Open it. Step through. Imagine beyond what you can presently see, and give others permission to do the same. The dream within your heart may simply be waiting for you to believe it is possible.
Today, I promise to allow myself to imagine possibilities.
