THE HARVEST MOON AND THE LADDER

Full moon over silhouetted reeds with inspirational quote about releasing the past and turning toward what makes the soul alive.

"If you look at how long the Earth has been here, we're living in the blink of an eye. So, whatever it is you want to do, you go out and do it." - Jamie Foxx

Isn’t it interesting that we are each given the same twenty-four hours in a day, the same seven days in a week, and the same twelve months in a year, yet somehow time seems to move faster and faster? I have always loved the saying, “The faster I go, the behinder I get.” It makes me smile, but there is also a lot of wisdom tucked inside those words. Sometimes our rushing does not give us more time. It simply keeps us from experiencing the time we have.

Tonight, I looked at the beautiful Harvest Moon and thought about the passage of time. Another season is turning. Harvest time arrives, the leaves begin their transformation, and before we know it, winter will be knocking at the door. Nature does not seem worried about the passing of time. The moon does not hurry across the sky. The trees do not panic because winter is approaching. Everything moves in rhythm with the Divine.

Perhaps we are being invited to do the same. Jamie Foxx's words remind us that when we compare our lifetime to the age of this magnificent Earth, our human journey really is a blink of an eye. That does not make our lives insignificant. To me, it makes every moment even more precious. It makes me ask myself: What am I doing with the time I have been given?

The full moon is often used spiritually as a time of reflection—a time to consider what we are ready to release and what we desire to bring more fully into our lives. So, as I gazed at the Harvest Moon, I found myself thinking not only about letting go, but also about focus and intention. A few days ago, I committed to doing an exercise taught by Neville Goddard commonly called the Ladder Technique. I have done this exercise several times, and my experience has always been interesting. Ladders begin appearing everywhere.

This time was no different. I went to an office supply store looking for a particular part I needed. I was so focused on finding it that I almost walked right into a ladder sitting at the end of the aisle. There it was. A ladder.

Then today, I walked into my friend's house where I am pet-sitting. I went into a room to water the plants and noticed a step ladder sitting there. Another ladder.

Later, as I was leaving the house where I am staying, I happened to glance beside the door. You guessed it. Another step ladder, parked beside the dryer. At this point, I had to laugh. I wasn't consciously walking around saying, “Where are the ladders? Show me another ladder!” Yet suddenly they seemed to be everywhere.

The ladder itself is not the important part of the exercise. It is simply the symbol being impressed upon the mind. Once something becomes a point of focus, we may begin noticing what had previously escaped our conscious awareness. Neville used the ladder exercise to encourage students to experience for themselves the relationship between imagination, attention, expectation, and experience.

And perhaps there is an even bigger spiritual lesson here. What are you focusing on? If the mind can become so attuned to something as ordinary as a ladder, imagine what can happen when we consistently turn our attention toward love.

Toward peace.

Toward compassion.

Toward abundance.

Toward healing.

Toward the dream God placed inside our hearts.

We spend so much of our precious time focusing on what we do not want. We replay yesterday. We worry about tomorrow. We rehearse conversations that may never happen and imagine problems that have not arrived. Meanwhile, this moment—the only one we actually have—is quietly passing by. Maybe the Harvest Moon is whispering to us tonight: Harvest what you have planted. Release what has completed its season. Plant your intention for what comes next. There is something you have been saying you will do someday.

Someday I will write the book.

Someday I will take the trip.

Someday I will forgive.

Someday I will begin.

Someday I will tell them I love them.

Someday I will follow the dream.

What if someday is today? We are here for such a short time in the grand story of creation. We do not need to rush through it, but neither do we need to keep postponing the life that is calling us. Slow down enough to experience the moment. Be intentional enough to choose your focus. Be courageous enough to follow the whisper in your heart. And trust enough to take the next step—even if that step happens to be onto a ladder.

Dear Angels, how can we make the most of the precious time we have while still remaining present in the moment?

Dear Ones, time is not asking you to chase it. It is asking you to inhabit it. You came into this experience not simply to count your days but to fill them with presence, love, wonder and purpose. Do not measure the value of your life by how much you accomplish. Measure it by how deeply you love, how freely you give, how fully you experience and how courageously you answer the calling of your soul.

Your attention is precious. Where you place it, energy follows. Therefore, become aware of the pictures you hold within, the words you speak and the expectations you nurture.

Release what has completed its season.

Bless what has brought you to this moment.

Then turn toward that which makes your soul come alive.

You need not see the entire staircase, Dear Ones. Simply trust the step before you.

The blink of an eye is enough time for a miracle.

Angels Whisper:  Your life is happening now. Release yesterday, stop postponing tomorrow, and place your loving attention on the beautiful life you desire to experience. Take the next step.

Today, I promise to enjoy each moment and all the ladders that show up in my life.
