THE DIVINE PAUSE

Small blue and brown bird perched on lamp post against blue sky. Green foliage blurred in background. Bird looks calm and relaxed.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

There are so many times in life that I pray for rest. Moments when my body feels tired, yes—but even more so, when my mind and heart feel overwhelmed. It is often in those times that I realize I have taken my eyes off the present moment and placed them somewhere far beyond my reach. I find myself caught up in the noise of the world—stories that are not mine, problems I cannot solve, situations that do not require my energy. And yet, there I am… carrying them as if they belong to me.

Have you ever noticed how quickly we pick up burdens that were never ours to begin with? It happens so subtly. A headline. A conversation. A worry about someone else’s journey. Before we know it, our peaceful moment is replaced with heaviness. Our breath becomes shallow. Our spirit feels tired. And in that moment, we whisper, “I need rest.” But what if rest is not something we have to wait for? What if it is something we are invited into… right now? The words of Jesus are not a distant promise—they are a present invitation. Come to me. Not when everything is finished. Not when the world settles down. Not when you finally have it all figured out. Come now.

Rest is not found in escaping life—it is found in returning to the center of who we are. It is found in releasing what does not belong to us and remembering where our true support lies. When we bring our attention back to the present moment, we begin to notice something beautiful: in this exact breath, we are okay. Not everything is solved. Not everything is clear. But in this moment… we are held. And that is where rest begins.

Dear Angels, why do we take on so much that is not ours, and how can we truly step into the rest that is being offered to us?

Dear Ones, you take on what is not yours because you have been taught that caring means carrying. You believe that to love another is to hold their burdens alongside them. Yet we tell you this truth gently and clearly: love does not require you to become heavy. You are compassionate beings, and your hearts are open. This is a gift. But without awareness, that openness can become a doorway through which you invite in energies, worries, and responsibilities that were never intended for you. Rest, dear ones, comes from discernment. Ask yourself in each moment: Is this mine to carry? If the answer is no, then bless it, send it love, and release it.

You are not here to fix the world—you are here to be a light within it. When you return to your breath, you return to your center. When you return to your center, you return to us… and to the Divine presence that has never left you. The invitation to rest is always open. It is not something you must earn—it is something you must allow. Lay down what is heavy. Trust that others are supported in their own journey. And come back, again and again, to the peace that lives within you. We are here, holding that space with you always.

Angels Whisper: Rest is not found at the end of the journey—it lives within each sacred pause. Lay down what is not yours, breathe deeply, and remember…you were never meant to carry the world, only to shine your light within it.

Today, I promise to let go and be at peace.
