A HEART DRUNK ON GOD: MY DIVINE WALK IN INDIA

Suspension bridge with colorful flags spans a blue river in a valley. Misty mountains and lush forest in the background create a serene scene.

“Where Ganges, woods, Himalayan caves, and men dream God — I am hallowed; my body touched that sod.”  Paramahansa Yogananda

For more than half my life, the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda have been a steady flame lighting my path. When I first opened Autobiography of a Yogi, it felt as though the pages themselves breathed. I devoured every word, hungry for the depth, truth, and love that poured from his life story. There were countless meditations in which I called out to him, asking to feel his presence, and time after time he came—gently, lovingly, as if wrapping my soul in warm saffron light. In learning of his one great desire—that all people know and love God—I found my own heart waking up to that same longing. Shortly before leaving his physical body, Yogananda offered these words: “When I am gone, only love can take my place. Be so drunk with the love of God that you will know nothing but God; and give that love to all.” Even now, I can feel those words whispered directly into my heart. His desire has become my desire. His devotion echoes within me. His love feels eternal. And so, here I am, walking the very land he revered—India, the sacred tapestry of saints, seekers, gurus, and mountains that touch Heaven. Today’s  quote was spoken in a speech just before he took his last breath, and they have stayed with me all these years. They are not merely poetry; they are a transmission, a code of holiness embedded into this soil. Soon I will stand beside the holy Ganges, the river whose name he spoke with such reverence. I already know—deep in my bones—that I will not be walking alone. I will feel him with me, perhaps in the wind that rises off the water, perhaps in the light that dances on its surface, perhaps in that sacred stillness that only the soul can interpret. I came to India with a mission of peace, but what I am discovering is that something the angels always reinforce, that peace begins within, blooming the moment we surrender to our true spirit self and embrace the infinite love of God. That inner peace becomes the outer peace we spread. It is the fragrance of devotion made visible.

Dear Angels, how do we honor this sacred land and deepen our inner peace as Yogananda taught?

Dear One, you honor this land by letting it awaken you. You honor your guru by letting love be your very breath. Walk gently, for every step upon this soil is a conversation with the Divine. Let the Ganges cleanse not only your thoughts but the remnants of every old fear you have ever carried. Feel the Himalayas whisper courage into your bones. Feel the saints who walked before you infuse your heart with remembrance. Peace is not something you bring TO India; it is something India is stirring within you. As you expand into that peace, you become a living answer to Yogananda’s final request:

Give God’s love to all.

Angels Whisper: The sacred meets you where your heart is open. Walk in love, breathe in God, and you will discover that every step is holy ground.

Today, I promise to walk in love of God and breathe that love out to all I encounter.
