Divine Authenticity

"You define your own life. Don't let other people write your script." — Oprah Winfrey

Just how hard is it to say no when you really do not want to do something? It seems pretty simple, right? For years I struggled to break free of people-pleasing due to my upbringing where I was taught to be polite, indirect, or avoid conflict, even when it meant suppressing my true feelings or needs. It is difficult for us to use our authentic voice if we don't know who we are, what we stand for, or what we want to say. So many times I was afraid that if I spoke my truth, I would be judged, rejected, or criticized. So in many cases it is not so simple to just say no – or yes, and to speak up for ourselves.

Dear Angels, these challenges to be authentic in our communication make it difficult to feel good about ourselves when we are constantly putting others first. Playing small is the “easy” way out of conflict but does nothing to empower us. When I learned that I could express myself in a way that felt good inside, I knew that was the beginning of becoming the true me.

Dear Ones, it is important to be empathetic and considerate towards others, but this does not mean sacrificing your own well-being or compromising your own values. It is possible to find a balance between your own needs and the needs of others, and to communicate in a way that is both honest and compassionate. As you are finding your way, remember that others are as well. If you have been in relationships where you were not seen or heard, it will be necessary to start with valuing yourself in your own eyes first. Start with reinforcing your worthiness and ignore any thoughts that tell you otherwise. Dear Ones, you deserve happiness. Finding your voice is just as important as breathing air. If your knees feel wobbly as you speak your truth, it’s okay. Do it anyway. Soon those legs will become stronger and so will your confidence and your voice will be ringing out loud and clear. Take your power back. You never lost it. It was hidden underneath someone else’s version of you. Just be you – not who the world tells you to be.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste y’all.

Today, I promise to be fully aware of my true self at all times.
